British Empire and French troops launched a amphibious landing at Gallipoli peninsula in the begging of WW1, in an attempt to gain contcontrol of the Dardanelles Straits and alienate Turkey with the allies. The operation conceived by Churchill and his war associates was a total failure. The strait was a major venue to the Black Sea and Eurasia. The Allies had initiated the Gallipoli Campaign in February 1915 anticipating naval and ground operations would force passage through the Dardanelles.
